@metabananas is asking about everyone’s thoughts on mfers. here are my answers.
1. How did you come across mfers? What's your favorite trait? Why did you decide to buy in/mint one?
it was last december when my friend introduced me to the whole nft world. while browsing opensea, he was talking bayc this punk that, but I saw this mfer thing looked way cooler. i didn't get one at that time cuz i didn't get the whole pfp thing back then. but just like many mfers, once the seed is planted, eventually you will get one, then another, and one day you will be surrounded by mfers and mfer derivs. fast forward to a month later, i got my first mfer, #6962, which i use as my pfp to date. and my mfer story began.
i met @FuerdaiTaba from discord, with @mfer7166 and our cmo @MemesMomoko from jike. we started mfers chinese community. right now we have 20+ wechat groups with 2000+ ppl, and many volunteers helping out. we have holder only group, themed groups like alpha group, stepn group, recruiting group, etc, location-based groups like beijing, shanghai, shenzhen, etc
the exact reason why i aped in my first mfer is still a mystery, probably because the planted seed (that little mfer!) grew and finally decided to steal my eth from my wallet. rationally I would attribute to the combination of the art (they look just like me), meme (who doesn't like it), and the coolness of the project (no roadmap, no utility, no whatsoever and cc0).
my favorite trait is definitely the blue bandana, the pirate and outdoorish feeling captures my personality the best. besides that, I like beanie and for sure i dream of getting an alien mfer one day (that alien mfer with blue bandana is da best!)
2. Would you agree that mfers are the vibiest PFP project in the space rn? If yes, what specifically do you think makes it one?
this is without a doubt. the vibe in mfers community is insane. as what we said it in web3, "come for the money, stay for the community". in mfers case, it is "come for art/memes/sartoshi/etc, stay for the community".
it is a positive feedback loop that makes the mfer community unique: the "mfers do whatever they want" spirit, the laughter from the memes, and the true decentralized community driven project attract many web3 true believers. we have many web3 builders and founders, professional degen traders, web2-turn-web3 entrepreneurs, researchers, lawyers, educators, journalists, etc. we can have high quality conversations about this space. in the meantime, we also have this "ok bear market so what? we still have fun" attitude in the current market. this in return attracts more like minded mfers to join us. who doesn't like to build things/make money/have impact while at the same time having a ton of fun?
here is a recent example: i have many nft related wechat groups. many are dead rn, with single or double digit chats every day. but in mfers group you won't feel the bear market at all, 999+ messages in one afternoon. we still cheer for many things, 6/9 mfers day, baobao's wedding, other web3 projects, or simply celebrating some mfer getting their favorite mfer.
3. What is the coolest mfer community initiative, in your opinion?
there are so many of them. I can name probably 100. for one, it is probably the making of official unofficial mfers discord that brings everyone together.
and in the chinese community, just to name a few:
4. Your thoughts on Sartoshi's departure (I saw your thread but if you want to summarize it in 1-2 sentences that'd be fantastic)
i knew this would come eventually. but when it actually happened, it was still a bit of surprise and feels bittersweet. we gonna miss sartoshi and his memes. on the flip side, now that he’s gone, mfers becomes a truly decentralized and purely community driven project. to some extent, mfers becomes btc in the nft space. this excited a lot of us.
it will be a great experiment, and we will surely have fun making it. lfg!
